Cathay Photonics

A Hong Kong-based company that specializes in innovative scratch-resistant coating technology using advanced solid-state coating and post-treatment processes. Cathay Photonics developed a “Sapphire thin film on transparent substrate” technology which can coat the cover glass of different electronics for protection purposes. Sapphire is the second hardest transparent material in the world which can help the cover glass avoid scratches and give it more protection to increase durability.

Cathay Photonics Limited is a Hong Kong-based company, founded in 2014 by a group of physicists and engineers with extensive experience in photonics and optoelectronics industries. Bearing the vision of improving the quality of life, CPL is engaged in a business of research and development, commercialization, marketing, and sale of specialty-coated glass and ceramics products. The Company has developed an innovative and advanced product portfolio, based on state-of-the-art thin-film deposition and post-treatment process. A number of inventions have been filed for patents from the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Cathay Photonics Limited has developed an innovative approach, “Sapphire thin film on transparent substrate”, which has several advantages; such as ultra-hard property, less brittleness, light-weight, and ease in processing.

CPL’s sapphire thin film will mark the beginning of the deployment of a novel and affordable scratch-free and ultra-high hardness technology for cover-glass applications in electronic devices worldwide. The “Scratch Proof Thin Film on Glass” won the Grand Prix (Champion) International Invention Award at the 44th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva.
