ParticleX, a tech-based start-ups accelerator aims to help technology start-ups tap into the Greater Bay Area through connecting the market, resources, research and talent by making use of its comprehensive network in Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The ultimate goal of ParticleX is to create a strong and dynamic ecosystem for start-ups, introducing them to the China market and offering them greater room for development. Particle X thus selected Shenzhen as the base for its headquarter in China, and the opening ceremony of ParticleX’s Shenzhen headquarters was successfully held on 27 September 2018.
Apart from Mr Clement Tang, Mr Simon Tang and Mr Ringo Lam, the founding partners of ParticleX, Mr Sha Xinhua, Associate Counsel of the Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission; Mr Zhuang Zhiyong, Deputy Department Director of the Shenzhen Committee of the Political Consultative Committee Conference; Mr Ling Cong, Deputy District Head, Shenzhen Nanshan People’s Government; Mr Xiaohui, Deputy District Head, Shenzhen Nanshan People’s Government; Mr Wang Dian Jia, Director, Shenzhen Nanshan District Bureau of Economic Development; Mr Liu Shiming, Director, Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission; Dr. Sunny Chai, Chairman, Hong Kong Science and Technology Park; Mr. Jim Zeng, Director, Shenzhen, Hong Kong Trade Development Council; Professor Wang Xiaohao, Deputy Dean of Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University; were there to participate in the opening ceremony.
ParticleX also teamed up with the Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University and signed a cooperation agreement, which aims to offer the strongest backing to technology start-ups by integrating the support and network of the Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University and the resources of Particle X.
ParticleX’s Shenzhen Headquarters – Opens up greater room for Hong Kong technology start-ups to develop
Shine Works, established by Mr Tang Yiu, founder of Hong Kong well-known retail company Belle International, with a vision to promote entrepreneurship, support innovative business ideas, together with providing the investing and innovating business resources, and aims to create a strong and dynamic ecosystem for start-ups and to offer them greater room for development.
Mr Clement Tang, the founder partner of ParticleX said, “The trend of technological innovation has swept across Hong Kong in recent years, and this has encouraged the emergence of numerous technology start-ups with great creativity and potential. With that, Shine Works established ParticleX by providing the support to Hong Kong technology start-ups, with making use of its comprehensive network in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, helping the start-ups tap into the Greater Bay Area, and introducing them to the China market and offering them greater room for development.”
Upon its establishment, ParticleX provides business resources, development support, fostering of collaborations, encouraging cross-border business, academia networking and assist in follow-up financing, to help Hong Kong start-ups by connecting various strategic resources together and open up greater room for their development.
Mr Simon Tang, the founder partner of ParticleX expressed, “There are many start-ups with great potential and international perspective in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. We established ParticleX to foster a strong and vibrant environment for these potential start-ups to grow and get into the global market.”
Mr Ringo Lam, another founder partner of ParicleX also said, “To identify a suitable location as the base of incubation, we have visited many places in China, and we finally selected Nanshan District, Shenzhen as the headquarters for ParticleX. Located at the heart of the Greater Bay Area, Nanshan District enjoys a superior geographical location, which made it easier for the collaboration between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. And it also becomes a huge springboard for Hong Kong start-ups to enter the international market. We are deeply moved by the vitality of Hong Kong start-ups, and thus we would like to offer our support to them by making use of our experience and network. We wish to help to cultivate a new generation of enterprises for Hong Kong.”
The Shenzhen headquarters of ParticleX locates at Shenzhen Software Industry Base, which occupies an area of around 1,000 sq. meter, a great place from which start-ups can scale up as it offers members a coffee bar, a professional communal working space, multi-function rooms, workbenches for meetings and other facilities to give start-ups the best possible collaborative workspace from which to get started. Apart from the support on hardware, ParticleX provides five core services for start-ups : business development, financing, connection, advisory & consultation and co-working space, wishing to build the connection for start-ups from Hong Kong, Mainland China and globally.
In addition, ParticleX will explore potential start-ups and provide them with seed funds to help them grow. After the official ceremony, Mr Mingles Tsoi, CXO of ParticleX, gave a brief Introduction of the tech start-ups being invested since the commencement of ParticleX Accelerator Fund. Currently, ParticleX has invested in 8 different projects across the pet industry, financial technology, data analysis, retail, and sports. During the opening ceremony, multiple projects invested by ParticleX has set up display area to showcase their achievement, which includes ANIWEAR, a start-up that provides cardiac assessment services for pets, and Maitian, which provides an AI retail solution to meet the shopping needs of the new generation.
Teamed up with the Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University in setting up a joint teaching base
Technology start-ups can also receive support on technical research through ParticleX. Funded by Shine Works, InfleXion Lab was established to develop hard technology and a platform to cultivate inno-tech start-ups. The Lab aims to act as the backing of start-ups through the collaboration with Shenzhen Graduate School of Tsinghua University which has a strong foundation in research by making use of their high-end technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, robots, and regional chains.
On the day of the opening ceremony of ParticleX’s Shenzhen Headquarters, ParticleX officially announced the collaboration with Shenzhen Graduate School of Tsinghua University and signed an agreement. With the agreement, ParticleX donated a total of RMB 500,000 to establish “Shenzhen Graduate School of Tsinghua University – Particle Accelerator Experiment Funds,” to support full-time postgraduate students for exploring experimental teaching models and provided support to students to engage in innovation and technology development.
Besides, ParticleX and the Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University will jointly launch the “Experiment Base” to provide full-time postgraduate programme, offering real and effective industry big data, artificial intelligence, robot simulation, etc., for students and to train the innovative mindset of them. At the same time, to promote the cooperation of industry and university research, and to meet with the needs of enterprise technology development plus the cultivation of students’ ability in innovation, annual hackathon will be organized for students to put their projects into practice.
Professor Wang Xiaohao, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University pointed out that: ‘”The Experiment Base” brings together the advantages of the Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University in education, teaching and innovative research, with the leading position of ParticleX in start-ups industry. We will work together to create a platform for talent cultivation, explore the experimental teaching model of graduate students, and support the launch of experimental teaching courses plus innovative research initiated by students. Our target is to foster a better environment for start-ups to develop and grow, and to cultivate more talents for the industry.”
