Huge congratulations to our portfolio company, Gense Technologies named as one of the top winners of the Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund/HSBC JUMPSTARTER 2022 Global Pitch Competition (“JUMPSTARTER 2022”), securing an investment opportunity of up to USD4 million.
The two winning startups, Gense Technologies and Open Ocean Engineering, were the top winners out of 600 startups from 60 countries and regions worldwide. Securing an investment opportunity of up to USD4 million, including co-investment from Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (“Cyberport”) and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (“HKSTP”), the co-organizers of JUMPSTARTER 2022.
Gense Technologies, a Hong Kong based startup, offers an affordable and portable self-help medical imaging device for early detection and management of some of the world’s costliest liver, lung, and kidney diseases.
For Justin Chan, entrepreneurship is about “making the world a better place. “It’s about getting a product out, getting a solution out that would really help the lives of people.” He’s aiming to do that with Gense Technologies, which offers an affordable and portable self-help medical imaging device for the early detection and management of some of the world’s costliest liver, lung, and kidney diseases. In particular, it can be administered by users who have no substantive operational training. It’s a particularly timely invention, as the pandemic has put health and healthcare at the top of everyone’s mind.
As co-founding CEO, Justin is leading a team of top researchers from Stanford, Cambridge, HKU, and HKUST for clinical trials of the device. He has also led the team to win the Asia Social Innovation Award and various regional competitions, as well as the ICT Startup Grand Award and ICT Startup (Hardware and Devices) Gold Award. Justin received his MPhil in Finance and Economics from the University of Cambridge and bachelor’s degree from the University of Warwick. He is also a Forbes 30 Under 30 recipient.
